Quote of the moment

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Still The Heart Beats

Still the heart beats
Though a world of crushing pains
Primes life for the world
Pounding like the engines of trains

Still the heart beats
In an existence without direction
No purpose to justify existence
Alone without a destination

Still the heart beats
Without a reason to go on
No faith, no hope
Not even a false mask to don

Still the heart beats
Still breath is still drawn
And the helpless and hopeless
Continues to go on

Still the heart beats
Without cause or want
Continuing that is not sought
Still the heart continues to beat.
