Quote of the moment

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

My Work Here Is Done

I’ve provide some joy to a few
Amusement to others
Called some friends
Treated some as sisters and brothers.
It looks like my work here is done.

Arrogant and sarcastic
Wit and occasional insight
I tried for humor
Didn’t always avoid the verbal fight
It looks like my work here is done.

I thought I made friends
I thought I found even more
I answered a call
Then I was shown the closing door
I guess my work here is done.

I believed I found
My destiny, my fate
I trusted every word
From my true soul mate
All of my work here is now done.

It may not seem like much
What I gave
But it was all that I had
Not a thing did I save
Not much more to do, my work here is done.

A means to an end
A blame, a lightning rod
Cast aside with a note
And a nod
I’ve done all I can, my work here is done.

Some of the best work
I’ve ever done
This time I will leave much in my wake
I’ve also spent all I have
Not much left for me to take.

I spent it for others
Though none seem to understand the cost
Or believe exactly what it is
I feel I’ve lost,
But there is really not much more I can say
I simply must prepare to be on my way
All I can do
My work here is done.
