Quote of the moment

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Hug

A warm greeting of a friend
Squeeze of shoulders, just a pat of care
Sing of wishes, symbol of respect
A message sent, familiarity to share

A parent’s love, for child great or small
From bumps in the night, or an awful fall
Those arms of healing create a space
Form pain and fear a safety wall

To one in pain of heart from loss
That warm clinch above any cost
The care conveyed in that simple act
Share the load to one who feels lost

For one familiar to lay together
To share a care through full embrace
Provides a union beyond compare
A strength of ease expressed with grace

Joined together a feeling no other can compare
To the love that two can simply share
With an ac so easy, so natural, so pure
As two at once the same spare share

Two embrace in passion entwined
Melt into a single being
Or comfort to heal in apology
To hide tears from others seeing

Few things approach, much less surpass
The raw emotion of a hug shared
As two unite with hearts combine
Minds meld as souls are paired

This is a thing of unmeasured good
This is a simple truth of life
A jewel of reality, an embrace in love
A moment when life seems as it should.
