Quote of the moment

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Destroys All

Silence grips the soul
Clutch of the raptors
Talons ripping apart
Isolated hearts lost

Inconsequence of existence
Discarded as carrion
Nameless victims
Of forgotten battle

Left by the shore
As eternity rolls by
Leaving none untouched
From eroding time

Breath rasps
Fighting the draw
Nourishment denied
Body and soul

Demon force
Expose bare thought
To merciless decay
Rotting waste

Worms feed
On raw forms
Voided beliefs
The fallacy of truth

The strength of faith
Cut by wounds
Inflicted by self
That stab the core

Lances pierce
Bringing only death
Bones picked bare
Flesh stripped off

Cutting wind
Eroding cares
Love destroys all
Leaves behind pain

Wounds that kills
The mightiest will
Thorn in the side
Infests all life

Tiniest enemy unseen
Brings down all
Mighty armies fail
None are left whole

Destroyed
By the very thing
That makes life
Most worth being

Released Love

It has often been said in various forms
If you love something, set it free
If it comes back, it is true
If it does not, it was never meant to be.

Authorship is clear
It is one with a definition of love
That is as easy to replace
As a well worn glove.

Or by one who was not confined
By the complications of real life
And was lucky enough to have their love return
Without loss or pain and strife.

Not addressed is the utter despair
Of finding your heart lost
Of the pain and emptiness
Of the deep and bitter cost.

To share ones soul, ones future, ones dreams
And then release it with no hope
Leaves one helpless
In the dark to feebly grope.

The claim that love mutual
Can always find a way back
Is the simplistic rationalization from one
Who has never suffer such an attack.

There are some not of a spirit
That they can move between matches a will
For them such relationships are not trivial games
Such losses their very will can kill.

Simple views of release and return
Are fine in worlds of fantasy
Where all things good can always find a way
To overcome all difficulties and reality.

And for those that can move
Almost routinely between opportunities
Not those how invest their entire being
Into the single route they know is their destiny.

To see what they know to be right
Slowly slipping from their view
Just out of reach, just out of touch
With nothing within their power to do.

Lasting

Some things last for generations.
Others for merely instants.
Fame, pleasure, a joke,
These things are brief.

Pain, loss, missed opportunities,
These tend to linger but they too pass.
Memories though,
These last through the rest of our lives.
